Course Information:
Grading Policies:Homework will be assigned each class period and posted on the website for reference. Assignments are due the following class at the beginning of the period unless stated. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to check the website for the work you missed. You will have and equal number of class periods to turn in an assignment as you were absent. Missed assignments and tests will be entered as a zero until they are made up. May complete missed work until the test day of the next unit for late credit. (e.g. Unit 1 make-ups due by test for Unit 2). Late work receives half credit. "Test Corrections: Students correct incorrect questions and earn back a ½ point. Test corrections are offered for three (3) days only following each test. Students must complete and turn in the appropriate form before attempting test corrections. "No Name" Papers: Posted on the whiteboard for one week and may be claimed for regular credit. Assignments not claimed will be filed away and awarded late credit. |

Behavior and Discipline:
Tardies - First block tardies will follow school protocol and result in a lunch detention. Tardies for other class periods will result in a one-hour after school detention. Subsequent tardies will follow school discipline procedures. One tardy may be cleared with a bathroom pass.
Cell Phones - Cell phones will occasionally be used as a classroom tool, but otherwise should be put away during class time. A warning will be given the first time, with stricter discipline with subsequent infractions.
Disruptive Behavior - Similar to cell phones, a warning will be given for the first offense, with progressively stricter punishments thereafter.
Progress Reports - Progress Reports/In Danger of Failure (IDF) notices will be sent out periodically during the school year. During the first quarter of each semester, IDFs will be sent out to all students who currently have a C- or below, as a reminder that they will need to keep an eye on their grades so they don't fall into real danger. During the second quarter of each semester, IDFs will be sent out to all students who currently have a D or below. This should be taken as a clear signal that the student may fail the course.
Bathroom Policy:
Students will receive six bathroom passes at the beginning of each semester. The restrooms are located at the end of the hallway, so bathroom breaks should not remove you from the classroom for more than five minutes. Bathroom breaks are NOT to be used to get food or drinks from the vending machines. Any food brought in this way will be surrendered until the end of class. Unused bathroom passes can be used as extra credit at the end of the semester. Students lose 5 participation points for each additional bathroom use/tardy.
Academic Honesty:
Plagiarism and cheating WILL NOT be tolerated in this classroom. I consider both to be forms of stealing: one is stealing another's work, the other is stealing ideas. Any student caught plagiarizing or cheating will receive a zero for that assignment and will not be allowed to make it up.
Good Stuff:
Homework passes and other rewards may be earned for high scores on tests, quizzes, and essays. Extra credit may be intermittently offered, though it will not be added into the grade book until the end of the semester. Extra credit may be counted for up to 5% on top of your overall grade. AP Only: Corresponding percentage grade bumps for passing the AP Exam (Score 3 = 3% bump) will be applied to 2nd semester only, taking the place of a Final Exam.
